Early Childhood Curriculum

Our Educational Approach

Rose Rock School draws inspiration from the LifeWays philosophy, itself rooted in the child-centered principles of Waldorf education. We provide a warm, structured environment that supports young children as they transition from home to school. Our approach emphasizes strong, consistent caregiver relationships, age-appropriate learning experiences, and ample time outdoors, helping children feel secure and engaged throughout their day.

Children enjoy outdoor play twice daily, weather permitting, and occasionally explore nature on supervised local outings. Our low child-to-caregiver ratio (never exceeding 1:7) ensures individualized attention and responsive care for each child.

All lead teachers are either certified in or currently completing the LifeWays training. As Oklahoma’s only LifeWays Representative Site, we are committed to high standards of care and professionalism. Teachers model respectful behavior and calmly guide children with consistent routines and clear expectations, promoting a harmonious classroom environment.

We embrace a mixed-age model that mirrors the natural social rhythms of family life. Children benefit from interacting with peers of different ages, as this helps them develop empathy and leadership skills. Approved and background-checked volunteers of all ages, including retired community members, occasionally contribute to our programming, enriching the children’s experience with intergenerational connection.

At Rose Rock, we value the learning that takes place through the rhythms of daily life. Our curriculum incorporates foundational skills through hands-on experiences in four key areas:

  • Practical Life Skills – Activities like gardening, meal preparation, and tidying teach responsibility and build confidence.
  • Social & Emotional Development – Group activities and mixed-age play nurture empathy, communication, and cooperative behavior.
  • Creative Expression – Music, storytelling, crafts, and imaginative play spark curiosity and encourage artistic growth.
  • Rest & Well-being – Balanced meals, adequate rest, and a calm atmosphere help support each child’s physical and emotional health.

We are proud to offer a learning environment that is nurturing, safe, and professionally guided, helping every child feel at home while building the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
